Burgundy 09 Overview by Wine-Pages

Domaine Vincent Dampt, Chablis 1er Cru Côte de Léchet 2009
"Although there's a certain richness of texture on the palate, the fruit is characteristically Chablisienne in nature, with a brisk saline twang to go with a hint of fresh white peaches. Intense, vivid and crisp."

Domaine Rossignol-Trapet, Beaune 1er Cru les Teurons 2009
"A pleasant, easy-to-drink wine, even in its youth, with good, crunch red fruit and a touch of sweet oak spice. Open-weave tannins and a pretty, perfumed finish."

Domaine Gilles Jourdan, Côtes-de-Nuits-Villages La Robignotte 2009
"Although this producer's entry-level Bourgogne Pinot Noir ViellesVignes (£110 ib) offers great value for money, the pick of the wines on offer is La Robignotte, made from the grapes from a single parcel. Deep raspberry/mulberry fruit with a distinctly earthy streak. Ripe, fleshy fruit cloaks some fairly austere, chewy tannins. Smoky minerality on finish."

Domaine A et P de Villaine, Bouzeron, 2009
"The wine shows a yoghurty-sour milk character as well as a saline minerality. Good creamy texture and fresh acidity. Bats well above appellation weight, as you might expect from such a talented winemaker."

Burgundy 09's Well Reviewed by Decanter

Côte d'Or

Domaine des Varoilles, La Romanée, Monopole, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru 2009
"Why isn't this domaine better known? I've admired their wines for years, and the 2009s are glorious. This monopole premier cru has a voluptuous nose, gorgeously fruity, and with a kiss of oak and cloves. The palate is equally sumptuous and seductive, with a velvety texture as well as evident tannic structure." 18/20

Domaine Trapet, Grand Cru, Latricières-Chambertin 2009
"An exercise in finesse, with sweet pure raspberry aromas, and a palate that is only medium-bodied, but silky and concentrated and tight. The acidity is perfectly judged, and the finish long and fresh. Delightful." 18/20

Chablis

Domaine Vincent Dampt, Côte de Lechet, Chablis 1er Cru 2009
"This has the richness of the vintage, with quite a ripe nutty nose that almost makes you think the wine has been in oak when it most certainly has not. That is one of the intriguing characteristics of Chablis, its chameleon character that keeps you guessing. The palate is rounded and textured, with layers of flavour and a long finish." 17.5/20

Côte Chalonnaise & Mâconnais

Domaine A et P de Villaine, Bouzeron, 2009
"Hay and sour cream fruit, chalky and ripe; a detailed wine with pretty fruit."

Domaine A et P de Villaine, Les Saint-Jacques, Rully 2009
"Sour milk and minerality: a structured, precise wine with a big finish."

Domaine A et P de Villaine, Les Montots, Mercurey 2009
"A red with fine, detailed fruit, nice balance, tight with a big finish, powerful and expansive."

Cakebread Wines Well Reviewed by Robert Parker

Cakebread Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon 2007
"The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon is among the finest “regular” Cabernet Sauvignons I have tasted from Cakebread. It exhibits a dense ruby/purple color, stunning purity, subtle notes of smoke, black currants, blackberries, spring flowers and toast, good acidity and ripe tannin. This full-bodied yet graceful, deep, silky Cabernet Sauvignon is already irresistible, but it will provide provocative and complex drinking for 15-20 years."

Cakebread Cellars Chardonnay 2008
"The 2008 Chardonnay possesses lots of lemon oil, citrus blossom and nectarine characteristics, but no evidence of wood. Medium to full-bodied and elegant, this beauty can be consumed over the next 2-4 years."

Chateau de la Tour and Pierre Labet Wines Excellently Reviewed by Stephen Tanzer

Chateau de la Tour 2009

Chateau de la Tour Clos Vougeot
"Bright red-ruby. Black cherry, menthol, licorice, chocolate and espresso on the very ripe nose; I was reminded of Saint-Emilion. Then dense, concentrated and structured, but with the sweetness of the vintage. Finishes with substantial broad, dusty, building tannins." 90-93/100

Chateau de la Tour Clos Vougeot Vieilles Vignes
"Good ruby-red. Superripe on the nose but with a mineral pungency to the slightly meaty black cherry, licorice, floral and menthol aromas. Tougher and more imploded than the "regular" Clos Vougeot but also floral and more sharply delineated. Wonderfully elegant, ripe wine with a long, floral back end featuring terrific mineral energy. The tannins are horizontal and fine. This is a very reasonable 13.2% alcohol."93-95/100

Domaine Pierre Labet 2009

Domaine Pierre Labet Beaune Clos du Dessus des Marconnets
"Saturated deep red. Very ripe but lively aromas of cherry, menthol, herbs and spices. Sweet to the point of liqueur-like, with cherry, fresh herb and spice flavors framed by an edge of acidity. Fat on the front half, then a tad drier toward the back, this creamy-sweet village wine will doubtless offer early appeal. (Labet's Bourgogne Vieilles Vignes, from Chorey-les-Beaune, still had a bit of unconverted malic acidity but should offer compellingly sweet fruit and an uncanny creaminess of texture by the time it's bottled.)" 87-90/100

Domaine Pierre Labet Beaune 1er cru Coucherias
Aromas of black cherry, leather and bitter chocolate, lifted by a floral element. Sweet, creamy, fine-grained and quite suave; ripe, broad and plump, showing no greenness from vinification with the stems. In fact, this is already very accessible thanks to its low acidity... Excellent potential here."88-91/100

Domaine Pierre Labet Gevrey Chambertin Vieilles Vignes
"Good deep red-ruby. Crushed blackberry, cassis, spices and a whiff of Cuban cigar tobacco on the very pure nose. Velvety in the mouth but at the same time juicy thanks to surprising acidity. Finishes with a distinctly firm edge." 88-90/100.

Chablis Domaine Millet Recommended by Decanter as a Top Weekday Wine

Chablis Domaine Millet 2008
“This generic Chablis knocks spots off most of its more costly Village-level peers. Poised and broad, it's wonderfully vibrant, with a mealy roundness to the nose and a palate run through with mouth-tingling minerals, juicy melon and apple fruit. A finely crafted wine well worth seeking out." 4****, 17.5/20

Bonneau du Martray Wines Brilliantly Reviewed by Jancis

Domaine Bonneau du Martray, Grand Cru 2009 Corton-Charlemagne
"Wild, complex, full of natural yeasts somehow. Racked just before vintage 2010. Really fascinating cocktail of hedgerow ingredients on the nose. Still very youthful on the palate with more richness than wines in the southern Côte de Beaune. Really wild! Substantial. A big mouthful of red-wine-type weight. 15 different parcels go into this. A walk on the wild side, though he has not reduced his sulphur additions... Long and majestic but with a cidery flirtation." Drink 2016-2030. 18+/20

Domaine Bonneau du Martray, Grand Cru 2009 Corton
"Bright and deep crimson. Real depth and vibrancy here. Bitter cherries. Bone dry rather than flattering which should become a really fine wine with time. All the elements are there. Fine tannins. Zest. Lots of fruit impact with a Beaune lift rather than Nuits grunt. Very promising. Very vital." Drink 2018-2028. 17.5+/20
