Pintas 2005 - Special ones

"Seeing the writing of a declining port market on the wall, the Portuguese have woken up to hte fact that great table wines can be made from their native grapes in the steep, terraced vineyards overlooking the Douro River [...]. Eyebrows may raised at such elevated prices, but these would be great wines in anyone's book. [...] the superb 2005 Pintas, an old vine "field blend" of 30 native grape varieties that exudes the autumn bonfire smokiness of oak, framing concentrated black cherry fruitiness and muscular power."

Burgundy 2007: wise buys

  • "Domaine Henri Darnat, Puligny Montrachet ****
"This wine displays fresh green apple and citrus aromas with some minerality. The palate is rich, with good structure, and the oak is well integrated. Elegant finish."

  • "Domaine Patrick Javillier, Cuvée Oligocéne, Bourgogne Blanc ****
Full of vibrant fruit with some creamy oak characters. This wine has a beautiful natural acidity with a creamy texture. It is round and well balanced with excellent fruit intensity on the finish."

Decanter Magazine, April issue
