Eight prominent Ayrshire merchants and landowners established Whighams of Ayr in 1766. From its start, the company supplied fine wines and spirits to many of the great houses and estates in Southern Scotland. In 1994, Whighams of Ayr joined forces with Corney & Barrow's Scottish operation to form Corney & Barrow (Scotland) Pty Ltd with Whighams of Ayr. We continue to trade from the 1766 built cellars in Ayr.
We regularly hold tastings in the ancient underground cellars in Ayr which also act as an extension of the shop displaying some of our older Claret and Burgundy vintages. Cellar wine tastings can be either informal or tutored and for corporate entertaining are individually tailored to a company's specific requirements. Such events can be a novel and memorable way to entertain both clients and employees, or perhaps used as a staff incentive. For details about wine tasting events in our cellars email ian.matthews@corneyandbarrow.com
Weddings held throughout the country often benefit from our Event Planning service - we offer advice on wine quantities, wine styles, food & wine matching, glass hire, as well as corkscrews, books, cigars and humidors. Wines can be offered on sale or return basis with delivery direct to your venue. We are also able to put together a comprehensive Wedding list for your guests to purchase from.
We run a thriving Corney & Barrow Wine Society where members receive discounts on all listed wines, and receive invitations to our regular tastings throughout the year. For those people who either do not have space or would prefer not to keep their wine at home, our 1766 cellars in Ayr offer a perfect solution for reserve wine storage in ideal conditions.

Allison simultaneously joined the wine trade, and embarked on her career with Corney and Barrow (Scotland) in March 2002. Originally from a telecommunications background Allison started in a sales support/customer service role which has developed and diversified to include hosting wine tastings events, ex cellars stock management and looking after a small number of private and on-trade customers. Allison also co-ordinates the annual Scottish Wine Tasting held in November each year. Interests outside of work include travelling, cooking, reading and of course wine - Alsace and white Burgundy are particular favourites!
