Il Pino di Biserno Tenuta di Biserno 2007

Italy > Tuscany > Bolgheri

This is a wonderfully accessible, inviting wine from the enlightened, pioneering Marchese Lodovico Antinori's new estate in Tuscany.

Rich plum-ruby, this has an enticing, intriguing nose, violets, ripe cherries and red and black fruit confit complemented by coffee notes, all enhanced by delicate hints of citrus. The palate echoes the aromatics presented by the nose, adding a refreshing spiced character, all set within an opulent, silky and rather decadent texture. It is extraordinary to have such intensity from such young vines and there is such elegance there too, a focus borne of a refined minerality.

Cabernet blend, 2007, Dry, Full bodied, 14.5%, Cork

Deep dense colour with a nose of oak and ripe fruit. Very rich, concentrated ripe fruit, very elegant with real depth. Very good claret I thought when tasting it blind. Drink now or in 10 years!

Press Reviews

"Blackcurrant, truffle, mushroom, earth. Leaf litter on the palate, wonderful creaminess, tannins are loose but supportive. Fine acid." 17/20

Richard Hemming, JancisRobinson.com (August 2011)

Lodovico Antinori's Wines Reviewed Score: 18/20, 4**** "Brilliant ruby red. Wonderfully aromatic and complex. Notes of violets, smoke and spice. Very elegant. Palate shows delicious balance, wonderfully crisp acidity and a weightless feel in the mouth that belies its 14.5% alcohol. Wonderfully supple tannins. Supremely smooth, with a savoury, chocolatey finish. Fabulous. Drink 2013-2020."

Decanter Online (November 2010)

One of October's Five Wines to lay down Score: 93/100. "Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc-based blend that delivers a welter weight of glossy, deep and sensuous black fruit. It's all very opulent and ripe, with cassis and cedar mingling through woodsmoke, but this is classy Bordeaux-style stuff with a silky texture and mid-palate concentration before a long, tobacco-infused finish. This will cellar for a decade with ease."

The Wine Gang (October 2010)

This week's top tipple "Layered with rich, bold umami notes wrapped in an opulent texture, with strata of intriguing flavour. It'll age or you can sip this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It'll make a luxuriant treat to kick most of the world's most iconic names into touch - at a fraction of the price."

Olly Smith, Daily Mail (October 2010)
