An exquisite and ethereal Tuscan red from one of Italy's visionary winemakers, Andrea Franchetti.

Le Cupole comes from the Tenuta di Trinoro vineyard in southeast Tuscany. Franchetti, the winemaker, was always certain of the excellent potential of the land before building the vineyard. After back-breaking tenacity and perseverance, the proof is in the pudding with scrumptious red fruit, flowers and a wonderfully silky texture.

Very, very good wine - and that's from a guys who is not a huge Italian wine fan. In the glass its colour is mature: garnet body and pale at the rim. On the nose it is bold, herbaceous, with sweet spices, i.e. cedar, vanilla, spiced apple. On tasting it's smooth with firm tannins (good backbone), mouth filling and slightly chewy - which is all good. Overall, a delight - the best Italian wine I have ever tasted. Try it!

"There's lots of bloody, fragrant, quite exotic lift on the nose of this IGT wine, with tobacco and herbs over red and black fruits. The palate is deliciously sweet: there's massive concentration at the core of this, and we love the bloody, smoky, swirling depth of the finish. Plenty of oak and power, but stylishly done." Score: 93/100.
