La Cueva del Contador Benjamin Romeo 2007
Spring Clearance Wine - original list price: £60.45
Almost opaque, inky-plum in colour, it is dark and brooding on the nose, presenting earthy dark fruit, wild herbs and crushed stone minerals with hints of bitter chocolate, laced by oak. The palate echoes the aromatics of the nose, spiced and opulent, powerful yet never losing a heightened freshness and a mineral layer which contribute poise and balance. This is a very lovely Cueva, wonderfully refined with opulent fruit, complemented by understated oak. It is drinking well now but it can equally well be kept for a few years.

Press Reviews
Richard Hemming, JancisRobinson.com (August 2011)
"Aromatic, dark fruit, endless length and structure. Drink: 2012-2025." 5***** 18.5/20
Decanter Magazine (April 2011)
"The 2007 La Cueva del Contador is the second wine of Contador with final selection of the bunches based on taste. ML is in barrel and the wine is aged for 12 months in new French oak. Purple-colored, it displays a slightly reticent bouquet of smoke, mineral, Asian spices, violets, black cherry, and blackberry compote. On the palate it is dense, layered, savory, voluminous, and impeccably balanced. This lengthy effort demands 5-7 years of cellaring and will deliver prime time drinking from 2015 to 2032."
