I was introduced to wine on family holidays – caravanning from Scotland to Beaune and Arbois. Thus began my interest in wine and Burgundy in particular. Studying Science and then languages, whilst working as a chef, made me think of rounding off my CV with a wine qualification. The WSET has a lot to answer for as it was there I met my husband. I still love cooking and when out and about love theatre, music and am rather partial to attractive cars – particularly our 1992 Alfa Romeo Spyder.
Asking a wine merchant about a favourite wine is a thankless task as wines are for the moment – company and mood dependent. A recent star for me is our own House 20 Year Old Tawny – a lengthy project which resulted in our changing from 10 to 20 year old to get the right quality. Appreciation is, in part, relief allied to the wine being great.
