An Evening with Pierre de Benoist & Justin Girardin

9th April 2019

We can’t wait to welcome Pierre de Benoist of Domaine de Villaine and Justin Girardin of Domaine Justin Girardin for dinner at Thomas More Street. These two complementary estates are a mere 10 minute drive apart, at the southern extreme of the Côte de Beaune (in fact, Bouzeron lies just outside the Côte d’Or departement). From the point of view of dinner, there is also the advantage that Domaine de Villaine produces mostly white wine and Domaine Justin Girardin mostly red…

Pierre de Benoist, nephew of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s Aubert de Villaine, has managed Domaine de Villaine in Bouzeron since 2000. He co-owns the estate, along with his uncle Aubert and aunt Pamela, Aubert’s wife. He has worked wonders in the name of the much-overlooked Aligote grape. Recently, the domaine has purchased extensive holdings in Rully, the first wines of which we await with excitement.

Justin Girardin represents the 13th generation of a winemaking family which traces its Burgundian roots back to 1570. Following studies in Beaune and Bordeaux, and a vintage in Tasmania, Justin returned to the domaine in 2010. He has made the wines under his own name since the 2015 vintage, which was our first vintage working together.

We will enjoy:

Domaine de Villaine:

 Bouzeron Bourgogne Aligoté 2017

Rully Les Saint-Jacques 2010

Rully Grésigny 1er Cru 2015

Domaine Justin Girardin:

Santenay 1er Cru Beauregard 2005
