Bernkasteler Graben Riesling GG Trocken Weingut Dr H Thanisch (Thanisch) 2017

Bernkasteler Graben Riesling GG Trocken Weingut Dr H Thanisch (Thanisch) 2017

This Mosel estate has a long tradition, dating back to 1636. Sofia Thanisch, currently at the helm represents the eleventh generation of this remarkable family and the fourth woman at the helm. This Bernkastel Badstube owes its name to communal baths which were established and inspired by the return of the Crusades. It is a stunningly sited vineyard. The soil here, fine slate, makes for wines with racy acidity and great potential.

"Bernkasteler Graben lies next-door to the Doctor vineyard. A brightly-fruited nose of green apple, lime and herbs, leading into a precise, taut palate which is steely and sternly impressive. This finishes with admirable focus and clipped precision. Give it a year or two in bottle to flesh out. "

“Finely etched well-structured dry Mosel Riesling from a superb site, Bernkasteler Graben is on the edge of the legendary Bernkasteler Doctor vineyard. Very elegant, apple and honey notes, lovely integrated minerality, tense steely palate with a hint of spice. Dr Thanisch, a small nine hectare estate run by 11th generation Sofia Thanisch, makes supremely elegant Rieslings – this scored high marks for its potential with two year’s extra maturity in bottle it will be very fine.”
