Are you planning an elaborate meal at home? Or, are you hunting for a special sparkler to indulge in before dinner reservations? Either way, this is what you should be drinking on Valentine’s Day.

Our Polemico Pais and Inocente Carmenere from Viña Laurent are both a perfect match with a juicy steak or slow-cooked pork belly. But if you are serving seafood or poultry, our Riesling Beblenheim from Domaine Trapet is divine. Last but not least, our Classic Cuvée Rosé Brut from Ambriel would certainly add some sparkle to the occasion!

But enough from us, hear it from our producers…

Lorena & Damien Laurent: Viña Laurent, Itata Valley, Chile

Q: How and where did you meet?
In Bordeaux at the University of Oenology.

Q: What were your first impression of each other when you met?
It really was love at first sight, which feeds on the passion we have for wines and gastronomy!

Q: What’s your relationship like in-and-out of the vineyard?
We’ve been married as well as working together for 15 years. The success of our relationship is to give a significant amount of freedom in the tasks each other has – respect and listen.

Q: Any special plans on Valentine’s Day?
A few days away in a small town on the edge of a lake with the Osorno Volcano in the backdrop – to feel the magic of southern Chile that we both fell in love with!

Andreé & Jean-Louis Trapet: Domaine Trapet, Cote de Nuits, France

Q: How and where did you meet?
At the winemaking school in Beaune when we were 20 year old.

Q: What were your first impression of each other when you met?
Fly me to the moon!

Q: Any special plans on Valentine’s Day?
Lots of Champagne!

Wendy & Charles Outhwaite: Ambriel, West Sussex, England

Q: How and where did you meet?
We first met aged 20 when we were students at Oxford.

Q: What were your first impression of each other when you met?
It would embarrass all four of our children if we told you that!

Q: What’s your relationship like in-and-out of the vineyard?
We each secretly think we’re the one who’s in charge – but in fact, it needs both of us. Charles rules the winery, Wendy’s domain is the vineyard. We both have a lot of fun in blending trials. A couple that sips together sticks together.

Q: Any special plans on Valentine’s Day?
We’ll pop a cork. Huzzah!

Nathalie & Hervé Carrette: Domaine Carrette, Mâconnais, France

Q: How and where did you meet?
We met in 2006 when I was collecting wine samples for the appellation panel. Hervé was the wine delegate for the municipality so he accompanied me to a handful of vineyards before showing me his own!

Q: What were your first impression of each other when you met?
As two people who are passionate about viticulture, we got on straight away. The day flew by and we decided to continue our conversation over a glass of wine and the rest is history…

Q: What’s your relationship like in-and-out of the vineyard?
Finding a balance isn’t always easy but we try to escape at the weekends as we both love travelling and discovering the world.

Q: Any special plans on Valentine’s Day?
Coincidentally, we’re going to a concert this year though we do prefer to make a special dinner at home with an excellent bottle of champagne.

Sandra Tavares da Silva & Jorge Serôdio Borges: Wine & Soul, Douro, Portugal

Q: How and where did you meet?
I met Jorge at Quinta Vale D. Maria when I was doing my internship for the 1999 vintage.

Q: What were your first impression of each other when you met?
I loved Jorge’s passion as well as his sense of calm.

Q: What’s your relationship like in-and-out of the vineyard?
We are both super passionate about what we do, and we are so blessed to be able to dream, create and build our family and work projects together.

Q: Any special plans on Valentine’s Day?
Hopefully, we’ll have dinner together with a bottle of great wine!

Lisha Nelson & Petrus de Villiers: Nelson Estate, Paarl, South Africa

Q: How and where did you meet?
We met on a blind date set up by Petrus’ dad!

Q: What were your first impression of each other when you met?
The first thing I noticed when Petrus walked up the driveway was his great legs! Yes, guys in South Africa wear shorts on the first date.

Q: What’s your relationship like in-and-out of the vineyard?
We work really well together and often discuss what we want from the vineyards – to see what works and how we can improve our wines. We also share lots of hobbies like cooking, wine tasting and travelling.

Q: Any special plans on Valentine’s Day?
It’s harvest season so we’ll be spending our day in the winery making wine!
