We’re so happy that there’s an official day dedicated to celebrating wine and cheese. It really is still the ultimate combination. What makes it great, is that it’s so very versatile. With so many varieties of wine, from all around the globe, it’s only fair that each is matched with its perfect cheesy partner – even if it means we have to try every wine and cheese out there.
We’ll take this one for the team, but here’s a few to get you started.
Wine & Cheese Pairings …
A classic style of Provence rosé with vivacious red berry fruit, ripe nectarine and hints of sweet grapefruit. Its silky texture, delicate creaminess and vivid fruit make this delicious on its own or a wonderful match for a variety of food, but especially tasty with a creamy Italian Burrata.
This is outstanding value, ticking all of the boxes a good Sauternes should – that perfectly-pitched balance of luxuriant, ripe fruit and fresh, upbeat acidity, poised, elegant, sensual and rather lovely. Perfect with a strong sharp Stilton.
We’ve been working with family-run estate, Chaumeau-Balland for decades. The clay and limestone terroir explains the characteristic, flinty minerality in the wines, while the average age of their vines is 30 years, meaning extra concentration in the grapes, imparting richness and elegance. Stick with the Loire for this one, and match with a local soft goat’s cheese.
One of the oldest Champagne houses, Delamotte’s wines remain hand crafted and of fantastic quality. The high proportion of Grand Cru Chardonnay grapes gives this non-vintage blend a lovely balance of fresh, well-rounded rich fruit and floral notes. A delicious aperitif on its own but also a great match for a succulent creamy Brie.
Blending elegant Eden Valley Cabernet Sauvignon with rich Shiraz from the Barossa Valley floor, Double Trouble gives an honest expression of the region, with aromas of dark chocolate and raspberry, and blackcurrant. Although showing elegant freshness, this is still a powerful wine, and deserves a powerful cheese. Our bet’s on the smoked gouda.
