Haut-Medoc

Château Sociando-Mallet 2017

£265.00

Case of 12

16.5

Pure red berries on the nose, tinged with violets – open, playful and lifted. The medium-weight palate is upbeat, light on its feet and with pleasingly supple tannins. An early-drinking style and nothing wrong with that – joyfully approachable.

Pessac-Leognan

Château Latour-Martillac

£275.00

Case of 12

0

Gently grassy nose, with a touch of lifted tropical ebullience. The palate is more extrovert and overt.

Margaux

Alter Ego de Palmer

£295.00

Case of 6

17

40% Merlot, 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Petit Verdot. A fragrant nose that is so quintessentially Margaux. The joy continues on the medium bodied palate which displays a sumptuous bouquet of crunchy red fruit and crushed granite with a fine, ethereal (almost Burgundian) finish. Only 6,000 cases were produced, half the usual amount. If priced correctly, this may sell out before you blink.

Pauillac

Echo de Lynch Bages 2017

£300.00

Case of 12

16.5

The second wine of Lynch Bages has a delicate blackcurrant and fine rocky mineral nose, with a touch of cedar. The medium-bodied palate has a light touch of tannin speaking of gentle extraction, with a finely textured mid-palate. This is being aged in one-year old barrels for 12 months.

Pauillac

Château Croizet-Bages 2017

£310.00

Case of 12

16

The 2017 Croizet-Bages has pure, crunchy red berries on the nose. The palate is bright and juicy, with brisk acidity lifting the raspberry fruit, before tannic grip exerts itself on the finish. Once the tannins resolve, this will be a good early drinker.

St-Emilion

Château Canon-La-Gaffelière 2017

£327.00

Case of 6

15.5

60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. High-toned dark cherries, with glossy black fruit. A modern style, with grippy tannins, unapologetically high-octane. The score reflects the likely spread of opinion! Cropped at a tiny 16hl/ha and being aged in 55% new oak.

Margaux

Château Prieuré-Lichine 2017

£330.00

Case of 12

16.5

63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. Raspberries and blackcurrant on the nose, with a herbaceous seam, leading into a palate of bright red berries, buoyed by nicely lifted acidity. Well balanced, with a marked lightness of touch and rose petal perfume persisting on the finish.

Pomerol

Château Rouget

£375.00

Case of 12

17

80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc. Deep inky-purple colour. Profound, ripe black cherry on the nose, with bright red-fruited high-notes. The palate is lifted, with excellent depth and a lick of sweetness. Wonderfully aromatically detailed, with firm cedar and a creamy lactic density to the mid-palate. Buoyant balancing acidity, with fine tannic definition on the finish.

This was picked from 20th to 29th September and is being aged in 30% new oak barrels.

Graves

Château Pape Clément Rouge 2017

£380.00

Case of 6

17

Bright, firm red berries on the nose, with a touch of cedar. The palate is pure and immediate, a nice meeting of crunchiness and weighty red berries. This seems purer and more hands-off than in some previous years, a good thing.

Haut-Medoc

Château La Lagune 2017

£380.00

Case of 12

16

An attractive nose of dark fruits and savoury spice leads into a pure, immediate black-fruited palate with a touch of pepper. Hangs together well, with good focus. Plantings: 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot.

Pauillac

d' Armailhac

£385.00

Case of 12

16.5

68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot. A pure raspberry-fruited nose, with hints of violets. The medium-bodied palate is immediate and bracingly red-fruited, crunchy, with bright acidity and fine tannins. Good wine, which will be approachable early.

St-Julien

Château Langoa Barton 2017

£390.00

Case of 12

17

Highly pigmented, glass-staining ruby. A gratifyingly red-fruited nose, perfumed and inviting. The palate has lovely fruit-coated tannins, which are forceful to be sure, but balance nicely with the darker-fruited mid-palate flavours. Lives up to expectations.

St-Julien

Château Branaire-Ducru

£410.00

CASE12

17

The 2017 Branaire-Ducru has a darkly-berried, bitter cherry nose, with a little savoury spice. The palate is similarly dark-fruited, with a fabulous sense of energy and excellent persistence. Finely extracted tannins. Tasted twice, the second time with an extra level of flair. Really good wine, cut from classical cloth but with a glimpse of the X-factor.

60% new oak, cropped at 40 hl/ha. Plantings: 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot.

St-Julien

Clos du Marquis 2017

£425.00

Case of 12

17

An attractive nose of pure red berries and rose petals. The palate is cool and focused, nicely weighted and with crunchy, seated red berries emerging on the mid-palate. The tannins are very fine and play a supporting role. A well-judged wine, which is being aged in 55% new oak. Harvested mid-September to 4th October.

Margaux

Château Malescot St. Exupéry 2017

£430.00

Case of 12

16

An inviting nose of dark cherry and raspberry aromatics. The mid-weight palate is softly-fruited and with an intriguing sweet-and-savoury counterpoint. Firm, characterful tannins channel the fruit. Not a blockbuster style, but there is personality and verve here.
