Margaux

Château Rauzan-Gassies 2017

£440.00

Case of 12

17

An infectiously lovely nose of red berries and violets, with a hint of grapefruit. The palate is medium-bodied and focused on the entry, with juicy, poised acidity balancing against fine, fruit-coated tannins. A really good wine with everything in its right place, which will likely drink earlier than the 2016.

Pessac-Leognan

Château Haut-Bailly 2017

£445.00

Case of 6

17.5

60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot. Beautifully poised red berries, with a lovely intensity of raspberry fruit and fine, tightly packed tannins. Really well judged, with a very attractive perfume-coating to the tannins. Yields averaged 20 hl/ha overall due to frost. It is being aged in 50% new oak.

St-Julien

Le Petit Lion du Marquis de Las Cases 2017

£445.00

Case of 12

16.5

Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. A red-fruited nose, ripe and with peppery spice and a sous bois herbaceousness. The medium-bodied palate is resoundingly ripe, with tomato leaf detailing. Being aged in 30% new oak.

St-Julien

Château Talbot 2017

£455.00

Case of 12

16.5

The 2017 Talbot has a darkly fruited, measured nose. The palate shows dark berries, brine and dark rocky minerality on the attack, broadening a little on the mid-palate to reveal forceful tannins. A harmonious wine, with good energy and persistence. It is being aged in 50% new oak.

Pauillac

Haut Batailley 2017

£495.00

Pessac-Leognan

Domaine de Chevalier

£515.00

Case of 12

17

A highly saturated purple-ruby colour, heralding a cedary, sweetly-spiced nose, with graphite and dark cherries beneath. The palate has grippy tannins on the entry, receding to reveal a mid-palate of ripe blackberry fruit, with excellent definition. A success of the vintage. This is being aged in 35% new oak for 18 months.

Margaux

Château Lascombes

£600.00

Case of 12

16.5

A ripe red and blue-fruited nose, with a sensitive lick of cedary oak. The palate is invitingly open on the entry, before forceful, firm tannins assert themselves on the mid-palate. Give this some time for the oak to integrate. A more modern, assertive style, but nothing wrong with that – a success this year.

Graves

Château Pape Clément Blanc 2017

£600.00

Case of 6

17

Firmly stone-fruited, with abundant volume and viscosity, bright green citrus meeting grassiness and bright white pears. Excellent energy, driving through to a long finish. A success of the vintage, recommended.

Pauillac

Château Clerc Milon 2017

£625.00

Case of 12

16.5

60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot, 1% Carmenere. Bitter cherries on the nose, with a hint of brine. The palate is crunchy and precise, red fruited with some tomato leaf detailing. Fine tannins guide the fruit nicely, exerting a gentle grip on the finish.

St-Julien

Château Beychevelle 2017

£650.00

Case of 12

17

Brilliant purple hue. High-toned and zesty on the nose, with grapefruit notes, as seems to be the style of recent vintages of Beychevelle. The palate is mid-weight, lively and buoyed on a cushion of acidity. Good support from fine, detailed tannins.

Pomerol

Château Gazin 2017

£705.00

Case of 12

17

90% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc. Lovely Parma violets on the nose and ripe raspberries. The palate sees darker fruits on the attack, as is usual at Gazin, with bitter chocolate and assertive, fruit-coated tannins. There is wonderful fruit sweetness here, contrary to the trend in 2017. Upbeat.

Pessac-Leognan

Domaine de Chevalier Blanc 2017

£825.00

Case of 12

17.5

The 2017 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc displays a gently grassy nose, leading into a palate of bright white peach and zesty green melon. Somewhat less exuberant than in some years, this is beautifully measured and precise, with just-so texture, viscosity and a nice saline twist.

St-Julien

Léoville Las Cases 2017

£890.00

Case of 6

17.5

79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc, 10% Merlot. Cassis and blackcurrant on the nose, with a deft crushed-violet aromatic lift. The palate is immediate and approachable on the attack, with deep forest fruits, firm, aristocratic tannins and a long, long finish. Cropped at 37hl/ha. It is being aged in 90% new oak.

Pauillac

Château Lynch Bages 2017

£890.00

Case of 12

17.5

The 2017 Lynch Bages, from proprietor Jean-Michel Cazes, has an intense, classically-proportioned nose, of blackcurrant detailed by graphite and cigar box notes. The palate is mid-weight, with supple, elegantly extracted tannin, cedar and pepper persisting on the finish. It is being aged in 75% new oak for 18 months. A success of the vintage, which deserves to sell well.

Margaux

Château Palmer

£1,175.00

Case of 6

17.5
