Latour is one of the hidden legends of Pomerol, acquired by Madame Loubat (who also owned Petrus) in 1917 and made by Ets. J.P. Moueix since 1962. It is tiny, just 8 hectares (19.5 acres), with both clay and deep gravel soils that offer power and refinement. So beautiful was the Merlot in 2019 that this is, uniquely, a 100% Merlot wine and brilliant it is too.
Deepest ruby, opaque indeed. The nose is arterially dark, with profound red fruits, very pure, almost pointed in their freshness and intensity. The palate is effortlessly balanced with a beautifully cloaked structure, a dark but subtle concentration and a sweet, sustained finish.
