Very pretty aromas of raspberry, peonies, roses and violets. 25/06/2021

Aromas of cassis, blackberry and sweet spices, with a touch of nutmeg. The palate is pliant and dense, very assertive, packed with ripe dark berry fruit, leafy herbaceous detailing and firm, grippy tannins. A potent and substantial wine of energy and drive. Although the oak is currently in evidence, it will integrate effortlessly.

64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot. A polished nose of cedar, dark berries and graphite. Reassuringly dense and imposing on the attack, the palate puts on weight impressively, whilst retaining a defined structure thanks to the firm, sculpted tannins. A full bodied wine which thanks to its ample proportions and fresh acidity will go the distance.

Château Mouton Rothschild 2020 - ON ALLOCATION

£1,299.00

Case of 3

18

24/06/2021

84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. Rich, vibrant ruby colour. The nose displays ripe blackcurrant, alongside joyful raspberry fruit. The palate is pleasingly plush, with a supple cushioning of both blackberry and raspberry fruit and firmly fruit-coated tannins. 13% abv.

St-Julien

Château Ducru Beaucaillou 2020 - ON ALLOCATION

£960.00

Case of 6

19

24/06/2021

81% Cabernet Sauvignon and 19% Merlot. A detailed, floral nose of roses, peonies, graphite and cedar. The palate is silky and packed with flavour – wild strawberry, blackcurrant and raspberry – which is refreshed wonderfully by a core of vivacious acidity. The most approachable young Ducru I can recall, whose tannins, although substantial and rich, are so fine and fruit-coated that they barely restrain the joyful fresh, dark fruit.

Château Margaux 2020

£1,299.00

Case of 3

18

22/06/2021

89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc. Wonderfully perfumed raspberry and rose petal aromas, with cassis, graphite, liquorice and fresh mint leaf. The palate is cool and focused, with a dark core of earthy minerality and blackcurrant, surrounded by fleshier black and red berry fruit. The tannins are very fine but coiled and powerful, the whole lifted by a fresh arc of acidity.

Picked 10th-30th September. The chateau reported very small berries this year so had to be very careful with extraction. 2020 is just below 2018’s level of tannins but is otherwise the highest ever. 13.5% abv – lower than the past two vintages. 36% of the holdings have gone into the grand vin. Production is 30% down on usual. 100% new oak.

17/06/2021

50% Merlot, 49% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Petit Verdot. Finely perfumed, intensely dark-berried aromas of cassis, plum and bitter cherry. Sort of a distilled essence of St Estephe on the nose, rather lovely. The palate has no shortage of tannin, but it is managed very sensitively, refreshed by a taut arc of acidity which allows the rich blackberry flavours to emerge. A beautifully managed meeting of power and refinement.
