Only made in tiny quantities (6,743btls) at the tiny and legendary Breaky Bottom estate, planted in 1974 by visionary Peter Hall. Just 2 miles away from the English Channel, this hidden, deep chalky valley acts as a sun-trap and protects the vines from gusty coastal winds, providing an ideal microclimate for vine growing.
Aged for 6 years on the lees prior disgorgement in March 2020, this particular cuvée, is dedicated to a dear friend of Peter and Christine Hall, Cornelis Hendriksen, an extraordinary man of Dutch origins, great character and cultivation who travelled the world and – as a doctor – brought medical care to people in remote rural areas such as natives from Australia.
"At this tiny, iconic English estate, classic Champagne structure meets British quirk. Savour the flavours of citrus, warm brioche and crystalline minerals.
"
It is thought that the Romans first introduced vines to England, however due to a combination of poor climate and the strong trading links with France and Italy (leading to a ready supply of wine), wine-making never really took off. Fast forward a few centuries and wine making is now a burgeoning industry because of improved wine making techniques and climate change.
