Chateau Barrail du Blanc Grand Cru St-Emilion 2019

Chateau Barrail du Blanc Grand Cru St-Emilion 2019

The family here, who has owned the estate for over 150 years, used to sell their grapes but in 1995 they decided to make their own wine. Considerable investment was necessary and new thermo-regulated tanks were installed, as well as a maturation cellar – all to improve qualiy. By virtue of the terroir here, this can never be a massively powerful wine – but so much the better. Wine consumers need such approachable, easy drinking wines. Charming and accessible, Barrail du Blanc produces a fine Saint Emilion which makes people smile, without breaking the bank

"We thought the 2016 was the best ever “Barry White”, better even than 2015, but this 2018 trumps both. It is a delight. Just 7 hectares in size, located in Saint-Sulpice de Faleyrens and with a mixture of light gravel and clay this has an impressively dense colour and a vinous nose of plumpest, bright red fruit. The palate is sweet, densely ripe with a startling fresh purity and concentration and super length. Everything you could ever expect from a Grand Cru Saint-Émilion. "
