Châtea Coutet, a classified growth, was described by Thomas Jefferson as the "best Sauternes in Barsac" Barsac, in common with Sauternes, is renowned for its morning mists. Signficance? The humidity encourages "noble rot" which sounds less than attractive but is key to the greatest of white wines, consuming the water content of grapes whilst fresh acidity shines through intense ripeness. Half bottles are an ideal size as an accompaniment or alternative to dessert - great with pâtés and Roquefort
"75% Sémillon, 23% Sauvignon and 2% aromatic Muscadelle, this is immediately appelaing with flashes of green through liquid gold. The nose combines orchard and citrus fruit, the attack vivid and zesty before more tropical notes emerge and nuances of warm baking. So far so lovely, powerful and seductive but the finish is the clincher - with vivacious, fresh, have another glass appeal "
