St Estephe is the northernmost and most rustic of the four important communal appellations in the Haut-Medoc, with a reputation of being slow to mature. Phélan- Ségur bites that particular bullet adding charm and elegance and an approachability in youth whilst retaining inimitable St Estèphe minerality. 2016 is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot.
"A restrained nose of red and black berries. Cool, crunchy raspberries on the palate, with weighty ripe raspberry flavours building in the mouth and firm, grippy tannins coming in from the mid-palate. Fruit-coated tannins, mind you. A very correct, upright Phelan Segur, with a lovely sense of sucrosity and a little twist of salinity on the finish. "
