We were offered a sample of the 2009 vintage of this by Jean-Baptiste Cordonnier, owner of Dutruch Grand Poujeaux and Anthonic, as he represents the wine. The owner presumably sent the sample with pride and hope that we would be able to do something. It was greeted with dismay. "What we do not need is any confusion with our Saint Aubin in Burgundy. Will Hargrove stated, quite correctly. We had invested considerable years helping to put the appellation on the map. The heads said "no but then we tasted. It would have been unjust to deny customers a chance to have some. This is a splendid example of honest, straightforward winemaking - no frills. A bright, intense plum ruby, the nose evokes a heady mix of sweet cherry, plum compote and cassis, bright, fresh and energetic in 2010. There is wonderful, background richness, a touch of cedar, but overall, an intense purity on both the nose and palate - very pretty indeed.
