THE DOMAINE

Gilles Jourdan established his own domaine in 1998, having managed the family holdings since 1970, whilst making wine at Maison Albert Bichot in Beaune.

Domaine Gilles Jourdan

The domaine is nestled in the tranquil village of Corgoloin, on the eastern side of the Route Nationale. There are just five hectares, including a monopole, La Robignotte, which is a special sloping vineyard on blue marl.

Gilles’ chai is tiny, crammed with equipment and a small tasting table, with a bottle cellar to one side and a barrel cellar to the other. The old, low yielding vines here tend to be picked at full ripeness.

We are proud to represent Domaine Gilles Jourdan exclusively in the UK, Hong Kong and Singapore.

THE WINES

Domaine de Gilles Jourdan En Primeur 2020

THE 2020 VINTAGE AT DOMAINE GILLES JOURDAN

During our tasting at the domaine in October 2021, Gilles Jourdan stressed that 2020 was a low-yielding vintage, after the more generous (“normal”) volumes of 2019. This is never an early-picked domaine, yet the very precocious 2020 growing season meant that even here, harvest started on 1st September, finishing on the 6th.

BOURGOGNE CHARDONNAY

This comes from one parcel. Elegantly stone-fruited and floral, honeysuckle and jasmine aromas combining with a flinty mineral bite. The palate is fleshy and finishes with a clipped saline precision. Just three barrels have been produced. 13.5% abv.

CÔTE DE NUITS-VILLAGES BLANC

This comes from a young vineyard, just over a decade old, planted mid-slope on limestone, with a little clay. Ripe, spicy white peach and apricot aromas. The palate is pure and brightly stone-fruited, with white flowers. This spends a year maturing in oak, around a third of which is new. 13% abv.

CÔTE DE NUITS-VILLAGES LA ROBIGNOTTE MONOPOLE

Gilles Jourdan is the sole owner of this jewel-like 0.96 hectare holding of blue marl. His first vintage of La Robignotte was 1999. There are two parcels, one 70+ years old, the other over 40. This has an intense ruby colour, with aromas of black cherries, liquorice and kirsch. A impressively dense and concentrated wine, with ample balancing freshness. Cropped at 28hl/ha. 25% new oak. 14% abv.

Corney & Barrow Score 17.5
