A pithy, lifted nose of blueberry and violets opens onto a palate marrying elegant, finely textured tannins with a powerful charge of thrillingly taut, silky fruit. Semi-abandoned when discovered by the Achaval-Ferrer team in the 1990s, the six hectare Altamira vineyard is in La Consulta.
"The over-achiever. Everything is rarefied about Altamira, from the air at 1,050 metres above sea level, to its 80 year old ungrafted vines."
Achaval Ferrer was founded by a group of Argentinian and Italian friends who loved wine and were determined to produce something outstanding – an aim encouraged by celebrated Italian oenologist Roberto Cipresso, one of the founding team.
Argentina is one of the world’s most exciting wine-producing countries. Important both in quantity and in the quality and style of its wines, Argentina has much to tempt wine consumers of all palates and pockets. Its juicy, soft-textured, everyday-drinking wines made from European varieties such as Chardonnay, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are widely consumed both in Argentina and abroad.
