Frédéric Lafarge and his wife Chantal established Domaine Lafarge Vial in the spring of 2014. They managed to secure several parcels of vines within Fleurie and one small adjoining parcel of Chiroubles, with buildings within the lieu-dit Bel-Air, in the commune of Fleurie. The vineyards enjoyed biodynamic viticulture from the outset, mirroring the Lafarge family’s approach in Volnay. 2015 saw small, very concentrated grapes, brought about by the dry summer conditions. 2015 saw small, very concentrated grapes, brought about by the dry summer conditions.
"This is a parcel of 1.33 hectares situated higher up, on the first slope in Fleurie, approaching from Moulin-à-Vent - Clos Vernay. It is quite steep, the vineyard surrounded by meadow and woodland. The vines range between 35 and 45 years. This is later ripening than Bel-Air, given its altitude, although both are south-east facing. Quartz soils. Harvested on 2nd and 3rd September and vinified in a 30 hectolitre foudre, 15% whole bunches. Dark, quite fleshy berries and very mineral, with beautifully integrated tannins. Focused and pure.
