Gamay Wine

On the palate, it is an elegant wine, with subtle but powerful tannins. Harmonious and sweet, it expresses the richness of the soil.

Juicy, fun and immensely pleasurable. This low sulphur wine has a core of pure red fruit, complemented by violet spice and a fresh mineral finish.

Morgon is one of the most stylish Beaujolais cru villages, and Corcelette is a lovely site. Rose-scented, with smooth bramble fruit and a mineral finish.

Bourgogne Gamay Domaine Labruyere 2019

From vines around 50 years old, this reveals exotic spice and dried herbs, enchanting from the off , unmistakeably shaped by whole-cluster vinification. Violets and rose petals, ripe raspberry mingling with a leafy herbaceousness. This brims with joie de vivre and in fact increases in potency when left for a few minutes in the glass. The palate has Parma violets and some milk chocolate on the entry, with marked herbal spice. Fleshy red berry fruit is framed by firm tannins, a step up in forcefulness, with nice precise acidity.

A blend of four parcels in Moulin-à-Vent, planted with 50 year-old vines. This has an imposing, intense nose of bitter black cherry. The palate has a cool precision and a supple cushioning to the mid-palate, a mineral richness speaking of its granite soils, abundant in manganese and quartz. 20% whole bunch fermentation, in concrete tanks. Half the wine is matured in old oak barrels, half in 600 litre demi-muids.

Champ de Cour is the only wine for which whole bunches are used. This entails fermenting entire grape clusters. The resulting wine has an attractively herbaceous, lifted style, sometimes described as �sappy�.

Spicy and darkly fruited on the nose, with deft tannins. Explosively concentrated, with ripe cherries and a grapefruit, zesty lift adding an exotic aspect.

Chiroubles Domaine Lafarge Vial 2016

Spicy red berries and rose petals on the nose, a nod both to the pefume of the Côte d’Or and the force of the Rhone valley. There is a dry-earth minerality on the nose too. The palate is forceful and initially defined by muscle and extract, before fleshy red berries make themselves felt on the mid-palate, lending a refreshing succulence. Fine chalky minerality emerges, contributing to an elegantly grippy finish. Excellent ageing potential here

Chiroubles is Fleurie’s next door neighbour. Despite being a different cru, this plot lies alongside Bel-Air, which itself is opposite the domaine buildings. This is a tiny parcel of 0.35 hectares. The average vine age is over 45 years. A wine pervaded by wonderfully bright red cherries, this is spherical and luminous.

Le Carquelin is one of the most cherished parcels in Moulin-à-Vent and sits together with Champ de Cour in the Labruyère hierarchy. It has muscular tannins in youth and needs some time in the cellar.

Due to the 2017 hail, just one cuvée of Fleurie was made this year. This contains the 1.2 ha plot of 60+ year old vines known as La Joie du Palais, plus Bel-Air and Cercillon. Extremely perfumed and red-berried, this has a bright, plush attractiveness of fruit.
