We begin with two Rieslings from Sofia and Christina Thanisch, the 11th and 12th generations of this Mosel estate. The Thanisch Estate Riesling Kabinett showcases the delicate lime fruit, laser acidity and low alcohol of Mosel Riesling, whilst the Bernkasteler Badstube Riesling Spatlese is a step up in both richness and slaty typicity.
Further south, in the Pfalz, is Weingut A Christmann. Father and daughter team Steffen and Sophie Christmann make beautiful bone dry Riesling. The Gimmeldingen Riesling Trocken, from the winery’s home village, revels in fruit purity and stony mineral tension. Sophie’s Pfalz Spatburgunder shows Pfalz Pinot’s great potential and complements our other Pinot Noir, the Rheingau Spatburgunder from Schloss Schönborn, on the banks of the river Rhine.
Finally, a luscious Auslese from Mosel legend Joh Jos Prüm. The Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese is named after the sundial which sits in the centre of this iconic vineyard.
