Biddenden Vineyards is Kent's oldest commercial vineyard, established in 1969. The vineyard is set on gentle south-facing slopes in a shallow sheltered valley, and grows 11 varieties of grapes over 23 acres planted over a sandy loam.

It is thought that the Romans first introduced vines to England, however due to a combination of poor climate and the strong trading links with France and Italy (leading to a ready supply of wine), wine-making never really took off.
