We are very pleased to offer the outstanding 2011 vintage from the Domaine Clarence Dillon. Under the guidance of Prince Rupert of Luxembourg, the great grandson of Clarence Dillon, the wines from these two properties continue to impress and improve. Clarence de Haut Brion is the second wine of Haut-Brion, known until the 2007 vintage as Bahans Haut-Brion. The 2011 blend is 71.5% Merlot, 22.8% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4.5% Cabernet Franc and 1.2% Petit Verdot. Dark in colour, the nose was rather subdued when we tasted, only gradually opening up to reveal a blend of dark and, most prominent, red fruit allied to more sultry notes, leather, woodsmoke and and cedar. The palate, rounded and ripe, underscored by earthy minerals and grainy tannins is disciplined and refined through to a long finish - refreshingly straightforward.
