Licanten Cabernet Franc Idahue Estate La Ronciere 2017

Licanten Cabernet Franc Idahue Estate La Ronciere 2017

Elegant Cabernet Franc made from slow-ripening grapes found by the sea in Licanten – one of the only four DOs recognised for its unique terroir in 2018. Viña La Ronciere is the only producer in this new DO. There, it combines traditional methods and precision techniques to make terroir-driven wines.

"This is an elegant Cabernet Franc with notes of cherries, violets and cinnamon. It is fresh and concentrated on the palate, with a touch of toffee and spearmint. It has firm, ripe tannins and a long finish."

“This beautifully perfumed Chilean malbec has a more overtly fruity style than typical Argentinian offerings. Pair it with duck or other game; it could even handle a touch of spice.”

Fiona Beckett (National Geographic)

“Bright crimson. Just a hint of reduction on the nose. This needs to be served a little cool; it has a mix of sweet fruit and fragrance. It's awfully promising. I would imagine that subsequent vintages will be absolutely thrilling and this is anyway pretty impressive – especially on the long finish. From any more classic source it would cost very much more. Jancis Robinson MW (

“The wines [Idahue Estate] are uniformly elegant with appealing freshness and varietal typicity. I was charmed by the Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 (with 8% Shiraz and 7% Cabernet Franc).”

Sarah McCleery, The Buyer

“This Malbec is vibrant and winning, utterly self-assured. It brims with floral and wild berry character, followed by a juicy, refreshing yet complex palate. Compelling - and outstanding value for money.”

Peter Richards MW, Decanter

Chilean Wine

The quality and availability of Chilean wines have flourished in the last twenty years. While wine consumers worldwide enjoy the easy-drinking charm of Chile’s inexpensive fruity wines, Chile’s wine producers have higher aspirations too, to make stylish, complex wines expressive of their unique origins, wines with a tangible ‘sense of place’, a notion the Europeans call terroir.
