Marsannay Rose Domaine Joseph Roty 2015

Marsannay Rosé is very much set apart from the general perception of rosé wines. The Roty interpretations more than deserves their rather elevated status as serious wines – far too much gravitas for poolside quaffing but with rather impressive culinary acumen. Production is restrained and the grapes here are directly pressed – rather than using the saignée method – making for a structured style with potential to age.

"A small vintage, due to heat and smaller berries, the harvest was nigh on perfect chez-Roty, almost nothing being rejected during sorting. Salmon in colour, this is once again a proper rosé, made with food pairing in mind, full bodied and ageworthy. The nose offers bright strawberries, so far so pretty but with a rather more avuncular background, limestone staking a claim. The palate is purposeful, maintaining intense fruit concentration "
