A “stealth” Pomerol, possessed of a quiet greatness of which only insiders are aware. You hardly ever see it on the secondary market, I suspect because, rather happily, it is more drunk than traded. This is a beautiful wine in 2016 with a fat, opaque ruby colour and a supremely confident perfume of fresh, dark fruits, very pure, very pointed, almost summer pudding like. The palate is effortlessly balanced, with a supple, dark concentration, an almost casual profundity and a sweet finish of almost sublime length. Beautiful wine

Beautiful wine - wonderful in this rather elegant format

2013 is a fine example. The nose offers a concentration of bright, piercingly fresh, pure, red fruits preceding a darker thread of old vine perfume. The palate is measured, silkily firm with a lovely dry density, almost chocolate-succulent. There is a very, very good balance to the finish. Very stylish in magnum

Chateau Latour a Pomerol 2017

Deep ruby coloured and an outstanding result in 2014, this has a startlingly fresh red fruit nose, almost atmospheric but weirdly, profound and rooted at the same time. The palate mirrors this but possesses a delectable density with layered, succulent juicy (that word again) fruits, a grainy but balanced structure and a long, intense finish. A very, very good Latour.

Dense, opaque ruby colour. The nose is subdued, carapaced, frustratingly elusive, hinting at profundity. The palate by contrast is beautiful, with a fresh silken density, simple at first but then the flavours balloon effortlessly in the mouth offering concentration, depth and super length. A C&B favourite.
