Leonardo Bussoletti

Leonardo Bussoletti uses traditional varieties and organic winemaking in the traditional style of Umbria - his wines express the noble art and craftmanship that is traditional to the region.

About

Leonardo Bussoletti is the man behind this organically farmed estate. He is a passionate advocate for his native Umbria and has been one of the leaders of the revival of native grape varieties such as Grechetto, Trebbiano Spoletino and Ciliegolo - grapes that had fallen out of fashion in recent years due market forces favouring more ‘common’ and higher yielding international varietals.

The vineyards are located in the wildest, less ‘trendy’, southern part of Umbria. The cultivated area covers just 9 hectares, in a number of sites at between 200 and 300 meters above sea level, which gives cool night temperatures, helping retain acidity. The soil is clay and limestone, held to impart that distinctive mineral accent in the wines.
