The first vines were planted in 1969 as a trial on one third of an acre, and the inaugural vintage was bottled in 1972.
Today Biddenden’s vineyards cover 23 acres and boast 11 grape varieties, mostly Germanic and some French which are best suited to Biddenden’s unique climate and soils. Half the vineyard is planted with Ortega, the white variety for which Biddenden is best known. The family pride themselves on their skills stemming from over 45 years of experience, with each generation of Barnes adding their own passion and flair to their winemaking.
