Founded by Ramon Roqueta in 1898, the original vines were planted on ancient olive groves (‘olivares’) in the foothills of the mountains. This area has its own unique microclimate capable of producing very high quality grapes – a combination of high altitude, cooler temperatures, proximity to the Mediterranean, and the shelter offered by the Pyrenees Mountains. With a long history of wine growers, dating back to the 12th century, the Roqueta family bodega shows the story of wine-lovers – a winery in touch with its origins and above all its region. Encompassing 54 hectares of vines, this bodega aims to create wines that capture the true essence of the Bages region.
Today, the vineyard is run by Ramon’s great-grandchildren, showing a wonderful example of a vineyard adapting to modern times whilst continuing to hold onto centuries of tradition and expertise.
