Château Cadet

Château Cadet in the Côtes de Castillon, produces thoroughly good, accessible Claret under the stewardship of the prodigiously talented Louis Mitjavile.

About

Louis’ name may be familiar. His father François is the trailblazer behind Tertre Roteboeuf and Roc de Cambes, where Louis first cut his teeth. Louis (Loulou) has long been known for his own achievements at home and internationally. After years of consulting, he finally acquired his own property, Château Cadet, but immediately had concerns about the name, fearing some connection to a certain brand. Louis was ambitious for this fabulous estate in Côtes de Castillon, bordering St-Emilion, sharing the same clay/limestone soil as its haloed neighbour. Having transformed the viticulture and vinification, he renamed the finished wine – l’Aurage. By then, having had stocks of Cadet to sell, Louis recognised the market for a more entry level Côtes de Castillon and elected to continue with Château Cadet, as a style. The wine comes largely from rented vineyards but also from young vines of L’Aurage. He is currently farming 8 to 10 hectares on his preferred, cool, argilo-calcaire soil. The viticulture mirrors that of L’Aurage and the style of wine is inherently similar, though with toned down, hallmark Mitjavile oak influence. 100% Merlot.
