About

The “satellites” of Saint Emilion, namely Lussac-, Puisseguin-, Saint Georges and this appellation, Montagne-Saint Emilion, offer a wonderfully accessible entry to Saint Emilion style, attractively priced. The Guimberteau family has been involved in wine production for over 100 years and the current steward of the family domaines, Rodolphe, is the fourth generation. Château La Courolle is a 14 hectare vineyard, planted with 70% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc. on argilo-calcaire (clay-limestone) soil. The vines are, on average, a highly respectable 35 years old. The Guimberteau family is renowned for its viticultural acumen and their pépinère viticole - vineyard nursery. As with the majority of our producers, the vines are absolutely key. In the cellar Rodolphe’s regime begins with an initial cold maceration. Then fermentation takes place in a mix of thermo-regulated stainless steel and concrete, maintaining a fresh, upbeat style. The wine is transferred to oak barrels, 33% new, wherein the wines become more supple and textured, without incurring any overtly oaky character. This very inviting, early-drinking Right Bank claret, is rich in ripe cherry and cassis, with floral notes and earthy, mineral undertones.
