Quinta do Vale Dona Maria 2012

Quinta do Vale Dona Maria 2012

Vale Dona Maria belonged to the family of Cristiano van Zeller’s wife Joana and was formerly on an extended lease to the Symington Family, with much of the production destined for Quinta do Vesúvio. Situated in the Torto Valley, this is a very complex vineyard with many different slopes and aspects. In addition some forty-one different varieties of vine have been identified. The climate in 2012 was markedly dry and also cool. It was only in April and May that some rain eased the drought at Quinta Vale D. Maria. Not only was the winter cool but there were also average temperatures in Summer.

"This is quintessentially elegant, very fresh, with good color, deep ruby with violet notes. The nose provides a good concentration of mature dark red fruit, black cherries and plums - very pretty aromatics. Here we find terrific balance and acidity. Intense, velvety and with a very long and fruity finish this presents the finesse and elegance so characteristic of Quinta Vale D. Maria Douro Reds. "
