This comes from two clay-limestone plots in Chaintré, in the south of the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation, totalling 0.98 hectares. The original date of plantation was 1951. Bright pale golden colour. The nose is ripe and welcoming, with a stone-fruited intensity and cedary spice from 15% new oak. The palate is plush yet focused, the initial exuberance tightening up on the mid-palate, with that lovely struck-match flintiness and fresh acidity providing definition, before apricot and roasted corn flavours re-emerge on the finish. Harvested by the Leflaive team, with a year’s ageing in oak, followed by six months in stainless steel vats.
