Italy’s Veneto wine region has played a pivotal part in Italy’s wine culture since Roman times, boosted by its strategic location close to Venice and the Adriatic. Today the Veneto is a thriving wine region, responsible for almost a sixth of Italy’s wine production and the source of Italy’s most successful contemporary wine ‘brand’ Pinot Grigio, a light-bodied dry white wine made from vineyards on the plains.
