In 1937, Jean-Pierre Moueix founded the eponymous Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix in Libourne. This family company has been instrumental in shining a light on the previously little-known communes of Pomerol and Saint-Émilion.
The family is both wine merchant and chateau owner, both strands having been developed by Jean-Pierre Moueix and the successive two generations. In the 1950s, Jean-Pierre acquired chateaux including Trotanoy and Bélair (now Bélair-Monange). His son Christian Moueix joined in 1970, studying at California’s UC Davis and establishing Dominus Estate in Napa Valley in 1981.
Ets J-P Moueix, now run by Christian’s son Edouard Moueix, is today responsible for some of the stars of Pomerol, Saint-Émilion and Napa.
