A savoury red where indigenous varietals are blended with international Syrah – imaginative as a concept, and it works when blended by a palate as good as Sandra Tavares. Paulo and Alice Tavares da Silva bought this historic Quinta in the late Eighties and immediately set about investing in the property. When their daughter Sandra, once a top model, proved to be a prodigiously talented winemaker, the family launhed teir own winesand, in 2000, Chocapalha was born.
"The name CH ticks two boxes, the Ch of Chocapalha, of which the familyis justifiably proud and Alice Tavares's Swiss origins. 100% Touriga Nacional grapes here produce a wine which has been aged for 24 months in French oak. This offers a deep colour, of violet tonalit and there is a good concentration on the nose, a rich perfume of ripe black fruit and floral notes. On the palate it shows velvety tannins very well-integrated which confer both excellent structure and amazing aging capacity."
