The estate where it all started for the renowned pale pink Provence rosé, it was at Chateau Barbeyrolles in the early 1980s that Régine Sumeire pioneered the delicate, glowing pink style that has put Provence on the map as France’s spiritual home of Rosé.

50% whole-bunch fermented. Darkly berried on the nose, with pretty aromas of violet and bitter chocolate. The palate is succulent and shot through with that primary violet character of nascent Grenache. Firm tannins and weighty blueberries lend age worthiness Aged for 10 months in one- and two-year-old barrels and then 10 months in old oak foudres. 14.5% abv.

Las Flors is the second wine of La Pèira and is a blend of Syrah (30 years old), Mourvèdre (28-35 y.o.) and Grenache (28 y.o.), withsupporting performances from Cinsault (42 y.o.) and Carignan (56 y.o.). It comes from a vineyard called Belle Fiolle in Occitan (Bellefeuille in French).

If Rasteau is flirtatious, Vacqueras is usually earthier and more leathered – it is the driest part of the southern Rhône. Half of this wine comes from sandy soils which, in combination with cool aspects, lend a welcome silkiness to the tannins.

Darklyfruited aromas of blackberry, cassis and bitter cherry, with a beguiling Rhône-like waft of white pepper and lavender, and a hint of the sauvage. The full-bodied palate is textural, with juicy raspberry and a core of pure, dark fruit, underpinned by slaty minerality and herbaceousness.
