2019, 2020 & 2021 is certainly an exciting trio. What became apparent in this trip to several producers is that the 2021 may be the most harmonious of all.

In Ridolfi what we believe we have found is a very specific, quality minded estate with finesse at the heart of what they do.

Wonderfully lifted and expressive nose. Small red berries with a touch of slightly degraded fruit. There is a beautifully succulent character to the palate, almost an easy sweetness of fruit which then gives way tar and dried herbs on the finish.

Aromas of Roses, iodine and grapefruit, with smoky minerality behind. A palate of ripe raspberry fruit, Parma violets all framed by supple tannins. Fantastic!

100% Cabernet Franc, Tenaglia, is sited at 520m altitude, west-facing. It is a mere 0.3 hectares in size, planted on friable limestone. A brilliant jet-ruby in colour, this is initially rather reticent, opening up to reveal pronounced dark fruit, on agitation. The palate is more gregarious than the nose suggests with focused cassis allied to a leafy, wild blackcurrant intensity. There is no doubting innate power here, yet it is delivered within an accessible, upbeat, fresh style, the abundant fruit complemented by light spice, all supported by a beautifully-integrated structure – velvet-textured.
