Andrea Franchetti set his sights set on a dilapidated property in the Val d’Orcia. This was to house his dream vineyard. There were no access roads and what is now vineyard was woodland and scrub - but that all seems to have had little bearing on Andrea's determination. Trained in Bordeaux, he is certain that terroir is everything. to produce wine here and he knew instinctively that Trinoro could be a fabulous site both in its geographical positioning and in its soil, which is rich in marine deposits.
From the outset, Andrea’s wines astonished the wine world with their richness and complexity. In time he identified specific parcels which had individuality and character. Magnacosta is one such.
100% Cabernet Franc, Magnacosta is a 1.5 hectare gravelly site where an old stream eats (magna) into a hillside (costa). The Cabernet Franc, grown from Pomerol cuttings is,very accessible. The 2018 offers a rather high-toned, focused nose, grape must and wild blackcurrant, layered with bitter cherry on the nose, rather lovely. The palate reflects the aromatics presented on the nose whilst laying some ground rules. This is no retiring violet, rather it is robust, positively vibrant and driven, embellished by floral purity.

TENUTA DI TRINORO
Tenuta di Trinoro, in the south of Tuscany, is the brainchild – nay creation - of Andrea Franchetti.
Tuscany’s rolling vineyards and olive groves make it one of the world’s most stunning wine regions, yet it is also Italy’s oldest, dating back to the Etruscans.
