Peter Sisseck, known for his iconic Pingus estate in Spain, here returns to his spiritual home of Bordeaux and the limestone soils of Saint-Emilion.

Jet-plum-ruby, bright and intense to a tight, bright rim, this offers black and red fruit on the nose, complemented by grilled fennel. Earthy and mineral, with citrus notes - bitter orange - and opulent cherry liqueur, this has a multi-layered complexity and sensuality. The palate echoes the aromatics presented on the nose, set within a luxuriant texture. Opulent yet fresh, focused and spiced this has a poised, protracted, elegant finish.

Roc de Cambes is planted on the most highly-reputed slope of the Côtes de Bourg (“Les Croutes”).

Dense ruby, this presents a sweet, refined, toffee-ed nose, rich in very pure red fruit. Flamboyant, mocha-rich, the palate is rich, stylish and upbeat with good density, medium weight and lovely balance.

Jet-ruby in colour this is instantly inviting, the nose offering a profusion of violet and red berries complemented by fennel notes. The palate, similarly, is fresh, lifted and rich in red fruit, lively though serious supported by grippy tannins. Fine and chiselled this is a wonderfully refined, elegant translation of the vintage - bravo to Peter and his team.

A “stealth” Pomerol, possessed of a quiet greatness of which only insiders are aware. You hardly ever see it on the secondary market, I suspect because, rather happily, it is more drunk than traded. This is a beautiful wine in 2016 with a fat, opaque ruby colour and a supremely confident perfume of fresh, dark fruits, very pure, very pointed, almost summer pudding like. The palate is effortlessly balanced, with a supple, dark concentration, an almost casual profundity and a sweet finish of almost sublime length. Beautiful wine

Supremely classical Moueix Pomerol. Fine, resonant raspberry fruit and deft cedary spice, with tomato leaf aromatics. 2016 from magnum can’t fail to shine.

Black cherry and fine smokiness on the nose, with quite beautiful violet perfume. With more time in the glass, the aromas become more red-fruited and open - very 2015, very accessible. Finely textured on the fore-palate, with charming soft, silkily giving blackcurrant fruit, offset by a detailed tannic framework. You feel this gives a glimpse of what the grand vin might achieve in the future. A showstopper!
