EVENTS CO-ORDINATOR

The role is based in the office 5 days per week plus at external venues as and when required.

The team are looking for someone with, ideally, 3 years’ experience in Events organisation or the Hospitality industry who can communicate effectively, build consensus across teams and contributors and who has excellent organisational skills in running Events, instilling confidence, creativity, ownership etc. The successful candidate will understand the logistics and etiquettes of catered functions – perhaps from having worked in the Hospitality industry. A very strong interest in wine is a definite must and previous wine education will be an asset.

The main responsibilities of the role are:-

  • The EC will be able to work to a budget, to deadlines and will have proven experience of co-ordinating Events to high standard and meet their KPIs.
  • The EC will be a problem solver, with a flexible attitude, ability to work evenings when necessary and great social skills to work with customers, suppliers, colleagues, caterers, event venues and any contributing contractors.
  • The successful candidate will be tasked with a very “hands-on” role in terms of logistics and co-ordination but also with creating unique and memorable events and experiences – “money can’t buy” events to attract new customers and retain existing ones – all with the aim of increasing company revenues. They will plan the event, forecasting and budgeting and analyse the success of each event afterwards, reporting on sales and any lessons to be learnt to improve and enhance events in the future. 
  • The EC will manage the Events section of C&B’s website improving the online visibility of our activities and utilising the website as a promotional and invitation platform.
  • The EC will work closely with our Sales & Buying teams and, of course, with fellow Marketing team colleagues to ensure maximum co-ordination of Events and maximum outreach to new and existing customers.
  • Additionally, the EC will act as the in-house leader and co-ordinator in charge of logistics and internal housekeeping pre, during and post event – including responsibility for ensuring our catering facilities are maintained to good Health & Safety & Hygiene standards. This will require developing good working relationships with our in-house Facilities team and Caterers as well as their equivalents at external venues as appropriate. Occasional support to regional offices for their events may be required.

ASSISTANT FINE WINE BROKER/BUYER

We are recruiting for an ASSISTANT FINE WINE BROKER/BUYER to join our Broking Team.

OFFICE BASED ROLE – 5 DAYS PER WEEK – BASED LONDON E1W

Broking Team Function
The team is responsible for the sourcing and listing for sale of wines from the secondary market plus the buying for Bordeaux En Primeur. 
They broke wines for sale from the reserves of our existing customers – thus guaranteeing provenance – and customers can apply for valuations online, by email or phone. Once a price is agreed, the team list the wines for sales on C&B’s website and they are available to be sold by the Sales Teams.
Non-C&B customers are also able to access this service, subject to their wines being stored in bonded warehouses and inspection of the wines.
Additionally wines from other UK and European wine merchants, especially first releases from other UK agents are bought and sold
The team also buy Bordeaux En Primeur releases from negociant partners in Bordeaux

The role of Assistant FW Buyer/Broker has the following responsibilities:-

  • Part of mutually supportive team of 5, working closely and flexibly with each other and co-working with the FW Sales Team.
  • Provide valuations in a timely and accurate manner for customers wishing to sell wines stored with C&B already or stored externally.
  • Negotiate pricing and timing, manage customer expectations.
  • Initiate logistics if wines not stored with C&B – e.g. product code creation and collections from 3rd party warehouses.
  • Cellar visits, inspections and packing when required.
  • Assist with reviewing condition photographs and provenance assessments.
  • Assist with logistics and listings.

FINANCE ASSISTANT

We are recruiting for a FINANCE ASSISTANT (FA) to join our Finance Team.

OFFICE BASED ROLE – 5 DAYS PER WEEK – LONDON E1W

The Finance Assistant actively manages the accounts payable function so that the reported ledger amounts reflect a true position of the company’s trade creditors at the end of every accounting period.
The FA manages the cashbook function so the reported ledger amounts reflect a true position of the company’s cleared and uncleared funds amounts at the end of every accounting period.
The FA provides support to the Marketing, Buying and Sales Teams, producing accurate statistics and ad hoc business reports.
The FA will be expected to provide cover as and when required for absences within the finance department team.
The FA will always adhere to the company’s financial and risk policies and procedures.

The main responsibilities of the role are:-

  • Ensuring all invoices/credit notes are processed in a timely way, accurately ensuring data entry and coding and that invoices have been authorised by budget holders.
  • Weekly & monthly Bank reconciliations / periodic reconciliations of balance sheet control accounts / periodic motor expense costs reporting and reconciliations.
  • Reconciliation of supplier statements – liaising with suppliers and/or internal departments in event of queries.
  • Preparation of  weekly BACS or EFTs, ensuring all payments are appropriately authorised.
  • Ensure proper “housekeeping” of the purchase ledger, documents are filed correctly and easily retrievable if necessary.
  • Prepare daily advices for mailing to broking customers.
  • On the Cashbook – process daily upload of bank statements and process relevant journals to clear open items on cashbook.

The ideal candidate will be/will have:
  • MUST have at least 3 years’ experience in a multi currency purchase ledger environment with genuine experience of manually processing large volumes of invoices.
  • Excellent Excel skills (Vlookups and Pivot Tables). Good working knowledge of Microsoft 365.
  • Able to manage own workload and have a “can do” attitude.
  • Numerate, accurate, honest, conscientious, team player, good communicator. 
  • Must want to learn and understand C&B’s business in order to be effective in this role.

BUYING SUPPORT COORDINATOR - MERCHANTING BUYING TEAM

Reporting to Associate Director/Head of Merchanting Buying

THIS ROLE IS BASED AT 1 THOMAS MORE STREET, LONON E1 -  5 DAYS PER WEEK

 

To support the growth of our business, we are looking for an additional Buying Support Coordinator to join our close, hardworking and mutually supportive team. This is a demanding and diverse role, with significant responsibilities, requiring strong administrative skills and attention to detail under pressure.

 

The successful candidate will be supporting the team in delivering a number of key objectives.

Super-organised, energetic, with a ‘can-do’ attitude and maniacal attention to detail, you love organising others, multi-tasking and GETTING STUFF DONE. You will have an interest in wine and maybe have some wine education but this is not a pre-requisite. You speak and write fluent English, though European languages particularly French would be a great bonus. Appreciation of quirk and off-beat sense of humour very important.

 

Responsibilities will include:

 

Coordination of private label wines

Liaising with colleagues in the Buying team, Sales team, Supply Chain and designers/printers; reviewing sales and aiding in the demand planning process. Negotiating design and print costs.

 

Coordination of producer and customer itineraries

Organising producer visits (field trips) in the UK, based on a clear brief, liaising with Buying, Sales and Marketing colleagues, and with the producer. Organising customer visits to see suppliers, as briefed.

 

Compliance & product management

Joint responsibility for administrating key compliance areas and maintaining records: Quality Control, Allergens, Organics, Deposit Return Scheme barcodes

 

Sustainability projects

Helping administrate our initiatives with suppliers in this key developmental area.

 

Junior buying responsibilities

‘Shadowing’ colleagues on a portfolio area - ‘cutting teeth’ and gaining insights into the buying process, with a view to potential future progression into a buying role.

 

Reporting

Joint responsibility: supporting the Buying team in running details sales and listings reports, including analysis, to review sales performance, and in preparation for supplier meetings.

 

General administration – general support for the team.

REGIONAL ON-TRADE SALES EXECUTIVE – SOUTH EAST ENGLAND (FOCUS ON SUSSEX & SURREY)

Reporting to Head of Merchant Sales

Home Based Role – Reporting to & Attending London Head Office as and when Required

 

 

Corney & Barrow has good regional sales coverage across Southern England but we believe we require a greater focus across Surrey and Sussex with additional scope into Kent. This is an ideal opportunity for the right candidate to develop these areas from scratch.

 

Main Responsibilities :                 

To deliver On-Trade focussed sales for Corney & Barrow in food led pubs,  restaurants, hotels, golf clubs etc with a focus in Sussex and Surrey, This is a new region for us so the emphasis is on new business acquisition. The successful candidate will need to

demonstrate outstanding customer service & relationship skills.

 

Whilst the role will be On-Trade focussed, there is scope for different types of customers as part of a healthy sales mix. Examples include private and corporate customers.

 

Specific Responsibilities:             

To work as part of the merchant sales team to develop new opportunities with an absolute focus on developing new business. The role will require an ability to identify new business opportunities, to develop these into leads and ultimately into new accounts and

customers.

 

An overall responsibility to hit pre agreed budgets based on developing new business in this region.

 

To play a flexible role within the Merchant team and work towards the greater good of Corney & Barrow.

 

Essentials:                                         

Good relationship skills and the ability to adapt to specific customer needs.

 

A proven track record in the development and delivery of new business

 

Dynamic, personable, ambitious, independent and able to work alone but also as a team player, self-motivated, commercially astute with a passion for wine and food.

 

Good numeracy & IT skills, along with exemplary organisational skills

 

Qualified to at least WSET level 3

 

Previous on-trade sales experience essential, ideally with a good working knowledge of this region.

 

Knowledge of other languages advantageous
