Contrada “C” Chiappemacine, 100% Nerello Mascalese, is planted at 550m altitude. This lies on the edge of a lava flow, on a rather thin lava layer over limestone. It tends to exhibit a more rounded, ebullient style so, when tasting, the question is - is that due to altitude or soil? The age of the vineyard is 90 years – also a factor. 2018 is extremely aromatic, floral, rich in sweet fruit, rich in fresh berries, cherries and also dried fruits, with slightly smoky savoury notes. The palate is equally aromatic, silky, very pretty with good refreshment - all supported by stony minerals – lovely.
