HISTORY

Family-owned Domaine Patrick Javillier is based in the heart of Meursault, today run by Patrick’s daughter Marion.

Domaine Patrick Javillier

After the war ended in 1945, Raymond Javillier decided to cultivate the two hectares of family vines. Although a modest plot, the vineyard had been a part of the family for as long as they could remember.

It wasn’t until 1974, however, that this family domaine really began to thrive. This was the year Patrick took over from his father after achieving his diploma in wine studies. Throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, Patrick then expanded the estate to its current form by acquiring new plots, including the addition of land from his wife’s family. The current holdings include ten hectares of vines with parcels in Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Savigny-les-Beaune, Aloxe-Corton and Pernand-Vergelesses.

In 2005, Marion joined the estate after completing her own wine studies and was responsible for sales and red winemaking. In 2011, her brother-in-law, Pierre-Emmanuel Lamy, also joined the domaine, working in the vines and making the white wines. Together they represent the third generation.

Vineyards

Meticulous attention and care are taken amongst the vines with the understanding that it’s necessary to have a great raw material in order to make wonderful wines.

The continental climate translates to hot summers and cold winters, interspersed with little rainfall. The clay-limestone soil here produces delicate yet complex wines.

Each vineyard plot is processed separately in order to best translate the individual characteristics. A pneumatic press and the use of natural yeasts help craft the whites, while the de-stemming of grapes and concrete vats are the preferred methods for red wine production.

Owing to its location, it is unsurprising that Domaine Patrick Javillier produces 80% white wine from plots in Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Savigny-lès-Beaune and Aloxe-Corton. The remaining 20% of production is dedicated to red wines from parcels across Savigny-lès-Beaune, Aloxe-Corton and Pernand-Vergelesses.
