Marion Javillier, Patrick Javillier’s daughter, is now in charge here. Patrick took over from his father in 1974. He expanded the domaine’s holdings to today’s ten hectares. Marion makes the red wines, whilst her brother-in-law Pierre-Emmanuel makes the whites. 80% of the domaine’s production is white wine and 20% red wine.
Marion recounted that the early growing season was mild but unfortunately they were hit by the frost on the night of 5th April. Low temperatures at flowering made for millerandage across the holdings. 2019 is a particularly small vintage here but one which, thanks to the higher skin-to-juice ratio of those smaller millerand berries and the general enforced concentration of the season, has resulted in wines of great substance.

BOURGOGNE CÔTE D’OR CUVÉE DES FORGETS
Named after the Rue des Forges, where the domaine is based, this comes from a number of parcels on the Volnay side of Meursault, on clay-rich soil which delivers density. An attractive nose of apple, peach and pastry, with overtones of lime zest. The palate has zippy energy and a fluidity which carries the bright citrus and grapefruit flavours through to a pithy, crunchy finish. Around 20% new oak.
Corney & Barrow Score 16.5+

MEURSAULT LES CLOUSOTS
The name Clousots reflects the blend of Les Clous (deep clay soils) and Crotots (limestone-rich). The latter, south of the village, is just beneath 1er Cru Les Poruzots. A fine, poised nose of white peach, pear and apricot, with perfumed honeysuckle rounding out the aromas. The palate is ripe and quite rich, a certain honeyed weight offset by fresh acidity. Tangerine zest and chalky minerality on the finish.

SAVIGNY-LÈS-BEAUNE 1ER CRU LES SERPENTIÈRES
Serpentières is rather unique in that it contains Savigny’s cemetery. There is more limestone than clay here, underscoring the tension of this wine. Raspberry and strawberry aromas, with an intense, cranberry-fruited core of ripeness. The palate is spicy and herbaceous, with bramble and earthy undergrowth picking out the ripe red berry flavours. Exuberant and excellent for earlier drinking. Around a third new oak, 100% destemmed.
