Dominus is part of a historic vineyard – Napanook – which dates back as far as 1836. The estate lies at the foot of the Mayacamas mountains, in California’s revered Napa Valley. The owner, Christian Moueix had fallen in love with the Napa Valley while studying at Davis University in California. In 1983 he embarked on this, his Napanook venture. Although the conditions in the Napa are markedly different to those of his native Bordeaux Right Bank, Christian's fundamental philosophy - namely that the vineyard is all important – would stand him in good stead. Wherever wine is made the same principles apply; the quality of the grapes is paramount.
"The blend in 2013, a dry, warm year, is 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc. Essentially opaque, it is a jet-plum in colour and offers a heady array of aromatics on nose and palate - blackberry, cassiis, sous bois notes and cedar. Beautifuly ripe there is complementary harmony between harmonious blend of soft acidity and ripe, present, ageing friendly tannns "
