Gigondas Vieilles Vignes Tardieu-Laurent 2017

This comes from five plots in Gigondas, at around 400 metres of altitude. 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre, ranging from 40 to over 100 years old. Two thirds whole bunch fermented. Laurel, garrigue and menthol on the nose – archetypal Provence, almost transporting you there. A little meatiness too. The palate has dark cherry, bitter chocolate, stony minerality and a plush juiciness which makes this a real winner. Complex and with lots of ageing potential, but also beautifully approachable. Aged for 12 months in one and two yearold barrels and then 12 months in old oak foudres.
